Hyperhydrosis / Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating can be a troublesome and embarrassing problem for those affected. Unfortunately for many, topical or oral medications and surgery proved ineffective. However because sweat glands are innervated by sympathetic nerves, Botox® is highly effective in reducing and abolishing sweat production in treated areas. Before treatment with botox, one needs to ensure that medical causes of sweating are excluded e.g hyperthyroidism.

How is Botox® given?

Injections using a fine micro-needle to the sweat-producing areas of the armpits can frequently provide relief for as long as 9-12 months. It is more easily administered if the armpits are shaved approximately one week prior to injection.

Do the injections hurt?

Because the needles are so fine and the quantity of Botox® so small, the discomfort is minimal.

Is this treatment only for under the armpits?

No – this treatment is equally effective for hands and feet.

How long will it last ?

This varies from person to person, but can last 9-12 months.

Are there any side- effects?

Botox® is not harmful. There may be some localised bruising following the injections or slight swelling, but this will quickly wear off. Our medical staff will discuss the use of Botox® in detail before any treatment is given.

How will I feel afterwards?

Self-assured and confident without the embarrassment often experienced in social situations.
